TIPS

The Gateway ImpACT Coalition and Camanche-DeWitt Coalition hold TIPS trainings to further the knowledge of all employees and establishments that serve alcohol.

TIPS (Training for  Intervention Procedures) is a FREE training program designed to prevent  inebriation, drunk driving, and underage drinking. TIPS certified staff  are less likely to sell to underage people, staff are more knowledgeable  about State and Local regulations, fewer penalties for alcohol  violations, improved customer service and satisfaction, staff are more  comfortable when dealing with inebriated patrons

There are different TIPS classes which include:

  • TIPS On-Premise is for those employed at bars, restaurants, hotels, where alcohol is consumed on the premise
  • TIPS Off-Premise is for those employed at grocery stores, gas stations, convenience stores, or anywhere else that alcohol is purchased but not consumed
  • TIPS Concessions is for those employed working at fairs, festivals, ballparks, etc. where alcohol is consumed on the premise

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does classroom training cost and how long does a classroom session last?
    •  Our sessions are FREE. Classroom sessions are  typically four to five hours in length.
  • Is TIPS available and accepted in my area?
    •  Yes, TIPS is available in your area. Both classroom and online training  are available across the country and in most places worldwide, so anyone  can be trained in the TIPS program. However, some jurisdictions do  regulate server training. Select your state for more information about whether or not TIPS is accepted in your area.
  • How do I renew my  TIPS certification?
    •  For all programs, TIPS card holders must complete  state-approved training and pass a certification exam every two, three  or four years depending on the specific state requirements. If your TIPS  card has expired, you must enroll in a upcoming class or online course,  complete and pass the exam to receive a new certification card. Click here  to look up the requirements for your state.  This will allow you to  enroll in the correct course that is approved for your state.
  • Why do I need to renew my certification?
    •  To ensure that servers and sellers are following current laws and  regulations, states require that servers and sellers receive alcohol  training every two, three or four years based on their requirements and  pass the appropriate course exam.
